Job Description

I am a Type 1 diabetic and have been for 16 years. I used a Medtronic pump for several years before making the decision to switch. I spent months doing research before making the decision to go to T:slim. The entire time I had Medtronic pumps my a1c never dropped below a 6. I tried their CGM and it was never even remotely accurate for me which made the prediction and suspend tech something that I couldn’t even use. When I left Medtronic my a1c was up to 14! Yes some of that was me being burnt out but regardless my a1c ran from 6.5-14 while on Medtronic. I’ve been on T:slim and Dexcom for just over three years and in that time I have gone from being classified as “uncontrolled” to controlled and my a1c has run from 4.6-6.8 and the 6.8 was when I was first switching over. The micro delivery system works better for me. I am more comfortable relying on this equipment to keep me alive. The reality is that my insulin pump and CGM are extensions of me. It is literally attached to me 23.5 hours out of the 24 hour day. This will continue indefinitely. I spend a ridiculous amount of time fighting for insulin, test strips, etc. fighting for All of these things whether supplies or DME only stresses me out which of course effects BG levels. I was 12 when I was diagnosed. I didn’t choose this, I didn’t eat too much sugar, or not exercise enough it just happened and I now have to fight with insurance to stay alive and healthy so that I can enjoy my life!
